  • Ash Bar
  • We are proud to present the sustainable bar counter crafted for Vet & Lazy, a beer brand committed to eco-conscious practices. Opened in the picturesque BlueCity at Bierkaai, the bar sits along the scenic Maas River, providing an ideal backdrop for this unique project.

  • Ash Bar
  • The owner envisioned a standout feature for the bar, and I was tasked with creating a counter top that embodies both beauty and sustainability. After a thorough search for suitable materials, I discovered the perfect timber: an ash tree sourced from Overschie, a neighborhood in the northern part of Rotterdam. This tree was responsibly removed by the municipality due to safety concerns. It was then expertly sawn and dried by Buurman Rotterdam, ensuring minimal transportation impact and maximizing the positive effects of carbon sequestration.

  • Ash Bar
  • The design of the counter top takes advantage of this impressive piece of timber, utilizing an efficient glueing method to minimize waste while highlighting the wood's natural elegance. Finished with a linseed boat lacquer, the coating allows for subtle transformations in the wood over decades, enhancing its character while ensuring longevity.

  • This grand bar top is composed of two custom sections measuring 75 x 210 cm each. Ingeniously mounted onto a cupboard base, it can be easily removed for relocation, making it a versatile addition to the bar. This project not only elevates the aesthetic of Vet & Lazy but also reinforces the brand 's commitment to sustainability.
