The transformation of a poor performing 80‘s office building into an energy neutral research institute. The three stepped strategy will be applied: reduce the energy demand, re-use waste energy and produce renewable energy.
A second skin will insulate de building and create climate buffers. The greenhouses will be used in the climate system, are use to grow food and add architectural value to the building. Heating and cooling will be done with a low temperature system accommodated by geothermal aquifers. Natural ventilation occurs through the earth, wind and fire system by prof. ir. Bronsema. The system is connected with a central atrium which allows daylight penetrating deep into the building. Creating a sustainable building that is pleasant for its users.
