This family lacked adequate space for their bicycles, leading them to store them under the porch and in the shed. As a result, the outdoor lounge area became unusable, and accessing the bikes in the shed was difficult due to a raised edge and small door, making them less likely to be used.

An outdoor canopy in the garden emerged as the perfect solution to this problem. Fortunately, there was an ideal spot in the garden with large doors leading directly to it. Given that this build required a significant amount of wood, I sourced second-hand materials from Buurman Rotterdam.

The structure features large pine wood columns and beams supported by hardwood foot blocks, finished with a layer of blue stain that complements other blue elements in the garden. The additional wooden components are thermally modified pine, already protected from weather influences, eliminating the need for further treatment.

For the roof, I found some translucent corrugated polycarbonate, but it wasn't enough to cover the entire area; thus, I used a Trespa panel to complete the roof.

The garden had an abundance of stone and artificial grass, so I aimed to encourage the family to remove more stones by starting with the first tile. In that area, I planted a Wisteria, which promotes biodiversity and attracts butterflies and bees. This climbing plant is designed to grow into the canopy's outer layer with the support of an iron trellis.
