Florian Nelemans

The upcycle laboratory in collaboration with BUURMAN Rotterdam was a research driven course. It consisted out of lectures, exercises and an exhibition. The lessons were guided by Florian Nelemans. The course was given in the workshop situated at the Keilewerf. During the Upcycle Lab 1.0 we have been building a coffee table in 8 weeks. An excellent student named Evita Bizune designed the table showed on this page.
Participants where thought how to design and build products with a 100% waste; no glue nor screw. Due to the diversity of supply a material driven design approach will be utilized. Sustainable aspirations intent honest and rational design. Lessons can be learned from nature as the greatest architect of all. On the other hand will a composition of tangible details be used to create aesthetic solutions. To do so traditional construction methods have to be reinterpreted. Hereby we have developed new building methods for upcycling materials.
